Stay Positive for Your Heart
It has recently been discovered that negative emotions
such as anger, depression and anxiety can be linked
to heart
attacks. Just as negative emotions can be damaging,
positive emotions have been show to help the heart
heal.
In a recent study, researchers found that people
with an optimistic healthy
outlook were less likely to die from heart disease.
In the study almost 2,000 men and women who had
been diagnosed with heart
disease were interviewed about their outlook
on the diagnosis.
After one year, 12% of patients who had expressed
a negative outlook had died, while only 5% of patients
with a positive outlook had died. While the severity
of each patient’s disease was taken into account,
their attitude was extremely important in surviving
the disease.
Pessimism was shown to be even more damaging than
depression, which has been shown to diminish a person’s
recovery from heart disease as well. Doctors suggest
the use of support groups, counseling and social
networks to help improve your attitude and outlook
on recovery.
